Laurie’s philosophy is based on the principle of “keeping it simple.” As you may have experienced yourself, few people succeed at long-term weight loss. With quick fixes, fads, and pills, many people lose weight but gain it back. In fact, given this common focus on the failures, The National Weight Control Registry was established in 1994 to investigate the characteristics of more than 5,000 women and men who have successfully lost more than 30 pounds and kept them off for at least one year.

 
This investigation has proven the old adage “slow and steady wins the race.” Despite the many pessimistic beliefs that it is impossible to stick with a weight loss plan, this study shows that it is indeed possible to lose weight and keep it off. Unfortunately, few people who try to lose weight follow the simple plan of eating fewer calories and exercising daily. However, this tried-and-true strategy is how the majority of the success stories in this study have lost and maintained their healthy weight.
